skill [skil] noun the ability to do something well; expertise.

Skill vs. Incompetence

I am a strong believer in building practical skills

This belief is the basis for specialization and division of labour.

If we can agree that practical skills are very useful to life, we are ready to move on to the next step.

Note that I feel there are 3 reasons to hold a belief in the importance of skill

  1. Observational: others in our environment place a high value on specialization of skills
  2. Pragmatic: those that build significant specific skill are valued highly by others and are offered more opportunities
  3. Theological: The bible makes multiple references to increasing ones skills "consider the ant to be wise" (Pro 6:6)
